New Vic Borderlines Young Peoples Theatre Company is invited to represent Britain in an international youth festival in Poland. This festival will be running from 11th June to 15th June. The company will perform a theatre piece and take part in workshops through out the week lead by international practitioners.

Let me introduce you to the Company....
It took two Commedia technique workshops, one week of residency and two evening rehearsals to create 'The Mummers Play' with a Commedia twist. We had a preview of the performance for family and friends before we go to Poland.
YPTC surprised me with how quickly they worked through the non verbal play. Even more surprised how much they were committed to the Commedia dell'arte technique and by the end of rehearsals they were coming up with some fabulous slap stick comedy suggestions.
Shall I introduce you to the company.....
King George performed by Lauren is greedy, coward and who takes the credit for all the hard work of his servant (performed by Julianna). Apart from performing Lauren has been very helpful by informing the company and me when we miss some of the actions we had created initially - meticulous indeed.
The Turkish Knight performed by Richard and his brother Bold Slasher performed by Katherine. This pair have been very comical, the Turkish Knight very honourable but his brother Bold Slasher on the other hand is very mischievous. Katherine is also supporting Tom by playing the violin.
In comes the father Egyptian King performed by Julianna, he is upset and he wants his sons to return to life. As the stage piles up with dead bodies we will never forget the thriller dance Julianna wanted to incorporate to her scenes. Julianna is also creating the dance pieces of the play which is looking pretty cool.
Now comes Rachel's adorable portrayal of Molly Masket, she comes in dancing and prancing faints in fear, falls in love and get bitten.....lets just say Rachel has created a character which warms up the stage.
After a quick change Rachel returns as Jack Finney with the domineering Toss Pott performed by Esther. Esther has created a whole new language by just saying one word MATIKA. Her precise actions and vocal communications really puts across the money obsessive and conniving character. Jack Finney??? well lets just say they make inseparable duo.
I cannot close this blog without mentioning Tom our volunteer on this trip with so many tricks up his sleeve, not only can he play the guitar, he composes and he is acting in the piece. Ohhhh did I mention that he can also spontaneously create a soundscape.
I am looking forward to the response we get from our festival audience.
